White Lightning…

Country music legend George Jones hit 75 Monday! He celebrated at the Grand Ole Opry with fellow country stars and pals, Alison Krauss + Union Station, Dierks Bentley, Joe Nichols, Tanya Tucker, Billy Ray Cyrus, Craig Morgan, and others.

I am a big fan of classic country and George of course makes the list of my music icons. Apparently other folks agree afterall, he is one of the most influential and awarded country artists of all time. Some of my hit favorites include, “White Lightning,” “Why Baby Why,” “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” and countless others.

I hung backstage at the Ryman with other TV crews and VIPs, while coffee and cake were served.

The biggest and best sugary cake I’ve ever tasted!

George was late for our first encounter, but at least he showed! The time constraints kept me from getting the picture that I had longed for.

Chitchat among other folks and perhaps age hindered Mr. Jones from hearing my interview questions. After repeating myself two or three times, his wife had to hush the crowd. Everyone’s eyes and attention were then on me (which was a bit awkward). In the end- my TV mission was accomplished.

George sat in the front row throughout the show and then took the stage for one final song. In the end, everyone joined him on stage and sang happy birthday.
