Paris Pulls Out…No Wardrobe Malfunctions…And Country Rakes It In!

paris-hilton-disco.jpg Paris Hilton has dropped out of tonights Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas. The blonde party girl was due to present an award at the show, but pulled out after reading the script that had been written for her. Her spokesman released this statement: “It is my understanding that some satirical references ridiculed some of her peers. Paris did not want to say anything that could appear hurtful or embarrassing about people she knows.” I’m sure Paris knows how it feels to be made fun of, she was a hot topic at the VMA’s.

Among those scheduled to perform tonight…Gwen Stefani, Ludacris, Mary J. Blige, the Fray, the Killers and Janet Jackson. This will be Janet’s first major TV performance since her big wardrobe malfunction.

Several of Nashville’s country artists raked in nominations. Kenny Chesney, Gretchen Wilson, Brad Paisley, and Brooks & Dunn join Carrie Underwood among the finalists in multiple categories for The 2006 Billboard Music Awards.

Carrie is a finalist in four categories: Country Artist of the Year, Female Country Artist of the Year, Country Album of the Year, and in the all-genre category of Album of the Year. Kenny Chesney likewise claimed four nominations: Country Artist of the Year, Male Country Artist of the Year, Country Album of the Year (The Road and the Radio), and Country Single of the Year (“Summertime”).

The 2006 Billboard Music Awards will air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Tonight on Fox.
