Reba, Kelly & Brooks & Dunn oh my! ASCAP Awards prove to be star studded

A slew of stars came out to The Ryman Monday night to honor the writers behind so many great country songs for ASCAP’s 46th Annual Country Music Awards. Reba McEntire, Alan Jackson, LeAnn Rimes, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles, Dierks Bentley, Kelly Clarkson, Martina McBride, Brooks & Dunn, Billy Currington, John Rich and Kelly Pickler were among those in attendance.

ASCAP CEO John LoFrumento and Senior Vice President Connie Bradley hosted the evening, that kicked off with performances by The Steel Drivers.

Alan Jackson received top honors when he was named Songwriter/Artist of the Year for two songs: “A Woman’s Love” and “Small Town Southern Man.” Other big nominees for the evening- Dave Berg was awarded ASCAP Songwriter of the Year and “Good Directions” snagged ASCAP Country Song of the Year.

Reba McEntire received this years Golden Note Award. The musical tribute to Reba included a few of her superstar friends as well as writers of some of her signature hits. Brooks & Dunn performed “For My Broken Heart” while LeAnn Rimes tore up “I’m A Survivor.” Kelly Clarkson nailed “Tell Me Why Haven’t I Heard From You?” and Reba closed out the awards show with “(You Lift Me) Up To Heaven.”

Kix Brooks started off his speech about Reba by saying, “She hates us!” He followed with sharing a story of a prank Brooks & Dunn pulled that went wrong on Reba. They had a stink bomb explode on her while she was switching stages during a performance. He joked that they haven’t really spoken since that tour in 1994. Everyone got a good chuckle.

Festivities didn’t stop there! After the show we all headed over to the post party, which included dinner, drinks and sweets for guests. That’s where Kelly Pickler was happily munching on food, while hanging out barefoot. She even was singing a few choruses of Pink‘s “So What” with a songwriter at the table. It was a much different story when she went on stage to accept an award for “I wonder.” The song/honor had the blonde bombshell shedding tears.

The party lasted until the wee hours of the morning. Additional pics from the after party of- David & Alice Ewing, Daysha McGrath & Austin Wilkinson of Jensen Sportag, Ashton Jones and Susan & Dan Hodges.
