Nashville Nightlife Awards: and the winner is…

The 2nd annual Nashville Nightlife Awards took over Mercy Lounge over the weekend. Vibe Agency and Movement Nashville held the event and awards ceremony “dedicated to honoring those that help make Nashville a bit cooler.” Nominations were posted online and open for voting. Most categories centered on music, but there were still a few random nominations like Beloved belligerent, Gatekeeper of the year and coolest couple.

The ceremony was fun, but unfortunately ran too long. Our group of pals still enjoyed the show and stuck it out to the end, which was well worth it. There was a random heckler, with his girlfriend that ended up causing a bit of a scene. Telisha Arguilles of Vibe didn’t tolerate his rude comments and politely let him have it over the microphone. It was good stuff!

Not long later Mercy Lounge owner Chark Kinsolving took the opportunity to rant about Nashville’s rock scene over the mic. I wish I would have rolled video as he went off about the vanishing genre known as rock ‘n’ roll. His speech was the intro for presenting the last award of the night, Best Indie Rocker (which he refused to announce the nominees for). Ricky Young ended up winning.

Other winners/highlights included; Deanna Bruton presenting her father John Bruton with the “Beloved Belligerent” award. Event of the Year went to Next Big Nashville, Best Blogger– Seth Graves of the Nashville Scene, Best Comeback Bar– The 5 Spot, Most Sought-after Musician– Nathan Hughes (who thanked his dog Matilda), Best Rock of ’08– Autovaughn (pictured), Highlight Show of the Year – Mercy Lounge anniversary shows, Performance Artist of the Year– Music City Burlesque (pictured) and Best Alternative Psychedelic and Country Band– Hillbilly Casino.

The BF and I snagged the Coolest couple trophy. Chark sat in as John, since he was out of town, and laid a big ole Hollywood kiss on me. :)

Chris Crofton, Sideshow Benny, Heypenny and Autovaughn were among the evening’s performers.
